Okada Ban Takes Off In Lagos… Govt Dismisses Anxiety

By Obinna Amaobi

Law enforcement agencies went on a road show yesterday to assure Lagos residents that the ban on commercial motorcycles announced by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on May 18, after a meeting with the Commissioner of Police, Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers, would be enforced without any compromise.

The enforcement of the ban takes off today.

The government dismissed anxiety over the enforcement of the ban.

“The Government wishes to advise all law-abiding citizens to go about their businesses without any fear whatsoever as measures have been put in place to forestall any disturbance,” a statement by Information Commissioner Gbenga Omotoso said.

The Nation learnt that a new enforcement squad is being put together by the state to complement other security agencies in enforcing the ban.

The six councils are Ikeja, Eti-Osa, Lagos Island, Surulere, Apapa and Lagos Island local government areas, while the LCDAs are Onigbongbo, Ojodu, Ikoyi-Obalende, and Iru-Victoria Island. Others are Lagos Island East, Itire-Ikate, Coker-Aguda, Iganmu and Yaba.

Operators and their passengers caught in the prohibited areas will be prosecuted and their vehicles impounded, it was said.
