2020 Argungu Motor Rally Kicks Off

The 2020 Edition of the Argungu Motor Rally supported by the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) has kicked off.
The Argungu Motor Rally, it would be recalled, has always been a part of Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival.

The events which holds in Kebbi State is one of the most foremost cultural festivals in Nigeria, and has developed into a great global brand. The motor rally played a huge part in the success story, as it continues to boost industrialization, job creation/entrepreneurial opportunities and tourism.
The festival and motor rally will also go a long way in diversifying the economy.

Speaking on these positives, Director General of NADDC, Jelani Aliyu (MFR), noted that all vehicles for the rally were locally assembled in Nigeria, which was part of efforts to boost and showcase Nigeria’s automotive industry.
Aliyu said the festival and motor rally will serve as an avenue to showcase Nigeria-produced and assembled vehicles.

The Argungu Motor Rally, www.meshackdaily.com recalls, started in the late 70s with the participation of car manufacturers from all over Asia and Europe. It was suspended in the 80s and was revived in 2004.

Of note is President Muhammadu Buhari, who has declared that restoration of the Argungu Agricultural and Fishing Festival after 11 years of its suspension is a manifestation of improved security in the country.

President Buhari, who was represented by Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, lamented that insecurity created a lull in tourism and entertainment for many years, with ripple effects on the nation’s economy, as it restricted movements, gatherings and investments, promising to promote policies that would stimulate interest in tourism and entertainment.

He said many international festivals, such as the Argungu Fishing and Cultural Festival, were being celebrated across the country, bringing Nigerians closer together and improving collective appreciation of the nation’s diversity, while projecting the rich history and culture to foreigners.

He stressed that the revival of the Argungu Motor Rally and the annual Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival was a testimony to the success of Federal Government’s efforts at restoring peace and security in the country.

In preparation for this year’s edition, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Sokoto Zone, has also mapped out strategies aimed at ensuring the free flow of traffic and ensuring the safety of lives and property during the event.
